MAG Sponge Filter Assembly and UseThese are really very simple to use, but a few precautions should be taken. The magnets we use are very powerful and you should not put them directly together. If they do end up together, do not pull them apart. It could tear the one out of the sponge. The best way to get them apart is to slide the magnets apart. The uncoated magnet must not go in the water. It will corrode if it is in contact with water. You can leave it unattached to the side wall so you can easily move it, or you can attach it will a drop of silicone (easily scraped off if you change your mind), or with some clear cellophane tape. The black magnet attached to the sponge is epoxy coated and fish-safe. When inserting the lift tube into the hole in the top of the sponge (magnet is on the side, not the bottom), push it in approximately 1". This will leave a 2" cavity in the middle of the sponge which is necessary to create the even draw of water through the filter. Before inserting the lift tube into the sponge, thread the airline through the hole in the side of the lift tube and push it to within 1/2" of the bottom. There is a photo of this on the main sponge filter page. |
