Double Dark Black Angelfish
(D/D) or (D/D S/+)These are not your typical slow-growing, poor-breeding Double Dark Black angelfish. They grow fast, are vigorous and spawn frequently as adults. We've worked for decades to get this line to where it is today. Not many lines of DD's fit this description. Most of these develop nice red eyes.
Be aware that many of our Double Darks will carry an unseen Streaked gene. It often does not express until the fish is 4 months old or more, so it can show up in the double darks that we are shipping. Also, we can't guarantee a degree of darkness. How can such a thing be accurately judged and described. How bright the light is, has a lot to do with how dark they look. However, in our opinion these are very dark and even though they are not, adults will generally appear pitch black with average lighting in an aquarium. A word about stripes: All Double Dark Blacks have stripes. The only ones that don't are the ones that are so dark you can't see them (adults), or the ones with another gene masking the expression of the stripes. So yes, stripes on a double dark black is normal and to be expected, unless they contain a Stripeless gene. Some of ours may have a Stripeless gene. Streaked Double Dark Blacks Although quite dark when young, they do have some Streaked expressing when we ship them. The older they get, the more streaking, mottling and iridescence they get. They are a facinating fish to watch as they age. The Hybrid Blacks (when available) are almost as dark as the double darks, but they will produce 25% golds. Some contain a Stripeless gene, so you may also get some blushing blacks and blushing golds (Sunsets). |
