Pearlscales will breed true. It's a recessive trait, so when one pearl is bred to another, all the offspring will carry two genes for Pearlscale.  They are truly spectacular fish. The lighter colored ones reflects the pearlscale pattern better than darker pearlscale varieties.

Mix of Pears and het. Pearls

How light affects the appearance of the pattern.  The angle is important.  They seem to turn off and on, but it's just the light reflecting or not depending on the angle of the light source.  Photographing them can be difficult.  The photo below is a Silver Pearlscale with good pearl pattern, but it is not visible in this photo because of the angle of the lighting.
